Saturday March 13th, BC's housing industry was honoured at the 18th Annual Georgie awards. The premier housing event for the province awarded 28 companies across 44 categories for their leadership and dedication in home construction, renovation, design, development, marketing and sales.
"These awards honour the best that BC's building industry has to offer in residential construction," shared Gordon Campbell, Premier of BC. "These awards also reflect the enormous contribution that BC's home builders make to our provincial economy."

Special Luncheon for BC’s Residential Construction Person of the Year – Doug Wittal
Join BC Homes Magazine, the Construction Safety Network, and CHBA BC as we honour and congratulate Doug Wittal of DW Builders with BC’s Residential Construction Person of the Year award. Government of Canada Announces Changes to the EI Program for Self-employed Canadians
CHBA BC applauds the Government of Canada for extending all Employment Insurance (EI) benefits to self-employed Canadians on a voluntary basis. Through the introduction of the Fairness for the Self-Employed Act, this legislation would extend EI special benefits, including maternity, parental, sickness and compassionate care benefits, to the self‑employed.

Workplace Training for Innovation Pilot Program
The new pilot program provides small business employers in British Columbia with access to funding to support employee training, helping improve skills and productivity. Available to all BC employers, the program offers up to $1,500 per employee – to a maximum of $5,000 per employer – to support employee training.
The Canadian Home Builders' Association of British Columbia is offering ease of access to courses which lead to the Registered Housing Professional (RHP) designation, through the newly created Canadian Home Builders' Institute (CHBI). Upon completion of the required courses, in addition to achievement of the program requirements, participants may achieve their Registered Housing Professional designation. The RHP courses provide the residential construction industry with a solid foundation of business and technical skills to meet the demands and needs of the industry, and reflect good local building practices.
