The Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC (CHBA BC) is the voice of the residential construction industry in British Columbia. While we speak as one, we represent 1,900 members across the province who are all professionals in our field.
We are at the forefront advocating for the issues that matter to our members. CHBA BC, for example, was steadfast in our commitment to ensure building requirements are consistent across the province. The new Building Act, that was given Royal Assent by the Provincial Government in March 2015, is the result of those efforts. A streamlined and modern building regulatory system means that costs will reduce, and efficiency, productivity and innovation in the construction sector will improve.
With an emphasis on collaboration, we have a tremendous amount of expertise we can access when new industry-wide issues are identified. We work directly with our nine affiliated local home building associations throughout British Columbia to achieve results. Our members have provided crucial input in a number of areas including technical code issues, developing policy, and addressing affordability. We are grateful to our membership for their dedication and service on our committees; taking time from your business can be a challenge, but volunteer work is what keeps our Association moving forward.
Our Association has always been committed to professionalism; we were the first home builders’ association in Canada to develop industry specific courses and certifications based on national education benchmarks. The province-wide continuing education programs ensure our members meet the provincial licensing requirements and provide an opportunity to work towards our certification designations.
We also celebrate excellence in homebuilding in British Columbia with the Georgie Awards®. The Georgie Awards is an excellent opportunity to market your projects and be recognized for your successes within the industry. We will announce the 2018 finalists this fall, and announce the winners in March 2018.
The residential construction industry in British Columbia is considered to be a barometer of the province’s overall economic health. The industry is essential to British Columbia’s economic strength and prosperity by providing 23.1 billion dollars in economic activity and creating over 158,000 jobs. We are an influential sector, and that influence is best leveraged by working together.
We are here to help you succeed and to ensure all levels of government hear our industry-wide voice. When you join, your company will be a part of the Canadian Home Builders' Association at the local, provincial, and national levels. Membership is an investment in your success. If your company is not yet a member, I invite you to join the CHBA-affiliated local home building association in your area.
