CHBA BC tracking fees and charges on new housing projects across B.C.
Burnaby, British Columbia. November 9, 2016 - The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia (CHBA BC) has launched a new data set displaying municipal fees and charges on new housing in municipalities across British Columbia.
“Consumers should be aware of the many layers of fees and charges on new housing projects. Builders and consumers can use this tool to directly compare some of the fees on a detached house from one municipality to another,” said CEO Neil Moody.
Four major fees – building/development permit fee, subdivision fee, zoning fee, and development cost charges – were collected for 16 municipalities across the province. Where applicable, school site development charges were also listed as this fee does not apply in every municipality. The fees were calculated using the same model of a 2,500-square foot house, where re-zoning would be required for a subdivided lot.
